5 Things Homeowners Can Upgrade Through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program

The Victorian Energy Upgrades Program is a government initiative designed to help homeowners reduce energy consumption and costs. Often, homeowners want to invest in more energy-efficient technology, but the higher cost of these appliances makes them inaccessible – this program changes that. Here’s a quick guide to what you can upgrade in your home through this program, from insulation and hot water systems to weather sealing and eco-friendly lights

Victorian Energy Upgrades Program

#1 Hot Water Systems

Hot water systems are essential to daily comfort and hygiene, especially in the winter months. Although they can account for a massive 16% of household energy usage – especially if you have an older system – upgrading to a high-efficiency hot water system is not an easy decision due to the cost involved. Under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, you can get as much as $799 off your upgrade depending on the size of the upgrade, the location, certificate price, and installation costs.

#2 Air Conditioning Systems

Spring has arrived, which means it’s time to consider upgrading your air conditioning system to keep you cool through the heat of summer. On average, homes in Victoria spend about $800 each year to keep their home comfortable – but high-efficiency air conditioning systems can change that, cooling your space for far less. Different cooling system and ductwork can receive rebates ranging from $100 to almost $1000 under the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program, including reverse cycle air conditioners (air to air heat pumps) and ducted evaporative coolers.

#3 Pool Pumps

Swimming pools and spas are every homeowner’s dream – until you get the energy bill! You can maintain your pool and reduce energy consumption by upgrading your pump under the Victorian Energy Upgrades program, which supplies a rebate of approximately $85.

#4 Home Weather Sealing

Weather sealing isn’t just for the winter or rainy months, although it makes heating your home a lot easier and more affordable. In the summer months, it helps to keep the cool air from fans and air conditioning systems inside your space. Weather sealing focuses on closing gaps around windows, doors, chimneys, and vents that don’t seal tightly, with rebates ranging from $17-238 depending on how much work needs to be done, location of the upgrade, certificate price, and more.

#5 Eco-Friendly Lights

You can now upgrade your incandescent lights, halogen lights, compact fluorescents, incandescent reflectors, and halogen downlights to LEDs through the Victorian Energy Upgrades Program. These eco-friendly lights don’t just use less than one-tenth the amount of energy as other lights, they also last significantly longer and are easy to recycle, as they contain no toxic gasses or substances. An LED upgrade is a great way to reduce energy consumption while keeping your home comfortable and well-lit.
